Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove, 22, is recovering after a cardiac arrest during Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan. The incident occurred in the 16th minute, halting the game and leaving players and fans in shock.

Quick Response Saved Bove’s Life

Bove collapsed suddenly at the “Artemio Franchi” Stadium. Medical staff acted fast, reaching him in just 30 seconds. After four minutes of on-field care, he was taken to an ambulance. A defibrillator was used en route to Careggi University Hospital in Florence, reviving him before arrival.

Giovanni Ghini, President of the Fratellanza Militare di Firenze, commended the medical team’s efficiency. “We were organized and did not improvise. This was decisive,” he said.

The ambulance did not enter the pitch to avoid getting stuck. Instead, medics carried advanced gear in backpacks, ensuring seamless care on the field. “We are thoroughly trained for such situations, including emotionally,” Ghini added.

Moments of Tension on the Pitch

Bove’s teammates, visibly shaken, quickly signaled for medical help. Danilo Cataldi, one of his teammates, tried to prevent Bove from choking by inserting his fingers into the player’s mouth. However, medical experts advised against this action for safety reasons.

“It is important to clarify,” Ghini explained. “This maneuver risks severe finger injuries and could cause further complications in the patient’s mouth.” He urged people to take first-aid courses, saying, “A few hours of training can save lives.”

Stable and Alert

Bove spent two nights in intensive care but has since shown significant improvement. On Monday, Fiorentina announced that he was “awake and alert” after being extubated. Bove has spoken with his family, teammates, and coaches, who rushed to the hospital upon hearing the good news.

Diagnostic tests are ongoing to determine the cause of his cardiac arrest. Fiorentina praised the medical staff at Careggi University Hospital for their professionalism and care.

Emotional Support from Fiorentina

The team, still shaken, is preparing for their Coppa Italia clash against Empoli on Wednesday. The decision to play came after a video call with Bove, who reassured his teammates. “The coach and players decided to return to training immediately after the call,” Fiorentina said.

Bove, on loan from Roma since August, has become an important part of the Fiorentina squad. He scored his first goal for La Viola in October against his parent club. Despite his young age, he has represented Italy up to the under-21 level, with hopes of earning a senior cap soon.

Looking Ahead

Fans and teammates are eagerly awaiting updates on Bove’s condition. The club emphasized its gratitude to the medical staff for their quick and professional response during the crisis.

As Fiorentina prepares for their next match, the focus remains on Bove’s recovery. His survival is a testament to the importance of proper medical preparedness in sports.
