Milan Dominate Roma to Secure Coppa Italia Last Four Spot

AC Milan stormed into the Coppa Italia semi-finals for the first time since 2022 with a commanding 3-1 win over AS Roma at the San Siro. On-loan duo Tammy Abraham and João Félix were the difference makers, sending the Rossoneri one step closer to silverware while ending Roma’s impressive eight-match unbeaten run in domestic competitions.

Early Drama and Abraham’s Impact

Roma’s Paulo Dybala, who found the net when these two sides met in December’s Serie A clash, was close to making another mark inside the first 10 minutes. However, his powerful header from a corner went straight into the hands of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Moments later, the focus shifted to Abraham, who was on loan from Roma to Milan, as he put his temporary club in front.

A shot from Tijjani Reijnders was parried into the path of Theo Hernández, whose pinpoint cross found Abraham unmarked. The English forward made no mistake, directing a header into the bottom corner to ignite celebrations among the Milan faithful.

Aerial Duels and Missed Chances

The first half saw both sides engaging in a fierce battle in the air. Eldor Shomurodov and Fikayo Tomori squandered close-range headers at opposite ends before Roma’s Niccolò Pisilli rattled the crossbar with a glancing header from an Angeliño cross after half an hour.

Roma responded with a period of dominance, pushing for an equalizer, but a ruthless Milan counter-attack halted their attacking momentum. Hernández again turned provider, threading a through ball to Abraham, who coolly slotted past Mile Slivar for his night’s second goal and eighth strike of the season.

Roma Fight Back But Milan Holds Firm

Roma came out fighting in the second half, and their persistence paid off within 10 minutes of the restart. Milan right-back Kyle Walker, searching for his first goal in Italian football, saw his header tipped over the bar by Slivar. However, moments later, Walker was frustrated as his deflection on an Angeliño cross redirected the ball perfectly for substitute Artem Dovbyk, who tapped in to halve the deficit.

Milan responded by pushing for a third goal, with Hernández’s free-kick flashing narrowly wide. Álex Jiménez thought he had restored the two-goal cushion, but his tidy finish was ruled out for offside.

Félix Seals Milan’s Spot in the Semis

Milan’s persistence eventually paid off as Félix, making his debut, put the result beyond doubt. Santiago Giménez played a well-weighted pass to Félix, who broke the offside trap and produced a clinical chip over the advancing Slivar to make it 3-1.

Roma thought they had pulled one back in the dying minutes when Reijnders turned the ball into his net, but VAR came to Milan’s rescue, ruling out the goal for an offside infringement by Dovbyk in the buildup.

Milan’s Unbeaten Home Run Continues

Sérgio Conceição’s Milan side has gone 11 consecutive home matches unbeaten, boosting their confidence as they chase their first Coppa Italia title since the 1970s. This defeat ends a promising domestic streak for Roma, and they must now turn their focus back to Serie A.
