“The first match cannot be used to judge our season”, says Mr. Sammy Okoth, Shabana FC Coach
Shabana FC, despite their 0-1 loss to Murang’a Seals at Homabay’s Raila Odinga Stadium last Sunday, holds a confident optimism for improving in future matches.
The season opened with Shabana in a challenging showdown against Murang’a Seals, where a late goal from the opposition ruined the chance for a draw. Despite this, the team sees the experience as fuel for doubling down on their efforts to perform better in the games to come.
Sammy Okoth, the team’s coach, maintains that the first game shouldn’t define the entire season’s prospects.
“It was a tough match, but this is football, you have to accept the result. We played well, but luck was not on our side. And the first match cannot be used to judge our season,” he remarked.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati, host Governor Gladys Wanga, the leadership team from Shabana’s official sponsor, Bangsports, and other officials graced the occasion.
Fans from various parts of the country assembled to witness the event, combining their support to cheer on the team with full force.
In Homabay, fans animated the streets, driving around and chanting, “Tore Bobe!” to showcase their unwavering support. A plethora of social media posts echoed the sentiment that this game is but a minor setback and that a rewarding season lies ahead for the team.
After a 17-year break from the field, Shabana is back, and this first game marks the beginning of a series of matches where they anticipate achieving better results and gaining increased support. This is only the start.
Tore Bobe!
