Qualification Process

The preliminary round draw took place on 20 February 2024 at CAF’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. The group stage draw followed on 4 July 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
A total of 48 teams entered the group stage—44 direct entrants and four winners from the preliminary round. These teams were in twelve groups (Group A to Group L), with four teams in each group.
Teams will compete in a round-robin format, with home-and-away matches determining the standings. The top teams from each group will advance to the 2025 AFCON.
